Deputy President Kithure Kindiki emphasizes that Kenya’s future cannot rest on individual ambition or partisan pride. It demands collective leadership, political maturity, and a willingness to rise above identity politics.

Kindiki was speaking on August 18, 2025, as he addressed leaders from Kenya’s two dominant political formations; Kenya Kwanza and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) during a landmark Parliamentary Group meeting at the KCB Leadership Centre in Karen.

“For 33 years, Kenya has revolved around two major political formations. The difference in their strengths has not been so significant. Like other democracies, our country requires bipartisan consensus, especially when dealing with very serious national issues,” Kindiki said.

Kindiki’s message was especially pointed toward emerging leaders. He cautioned against the illusion that managing national affairs is easy, urging younger politicians to study the leadership of President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga not just for their electoral success, but for their ability to prioritize national interest over personal gain.

“People think managing the affairs of the country is a small issue. Going forward, younger politicians should pick lessons from these leaders.”

He has praised Ruto and Raila as visionary figures whose leadership has shown that elections and politics must never undermine Kenya’s stability or progress.

“Let us not underestimate the leadership of Raila and Ruto through their parties. None of us can heavy-lift the weight of national transformation alone. We must celebrate their visionary leadership.”

Kindiki also addressed the frustrations of leaders who feel sidelined due to their religion, ethnicity, or regional background. His advice was clear: focus on coalition-building and national vision, not grievance-driven politics.

“Those who feel disadvantaged must not retreat. As we form coalitions and build our respective parties, let us look toward building national parties, because that is where the future of our nation lies.”
