The 29-year-old man met his unfortunate demise while bravely attempting to retrieve a second-hand phone from a pit latrine.

Salim's ill-fated journey began when he learned that a second-hand C31 phone, worth 7,000 Kenyan Shillings, had accidentally fallen into a pit latrine.

Despite the phone not belonging to him, Salim decided to undertake the difficult task of retrieving it. Motivated by a meagre promise of 200 Kenyan Shillings, he entered the treacherous pit, unaware of the impending tragedy that awaited him.

Tragically, Salim lost his balance during the retrieval attempt and met a watery grave amidst the grim surroundings of the pit latrine. The incident unfolded rapidly, leaving the community shocked and grief-stricken by the untimely loss of a young life.

Local authorities swiftly responded to the distressing situation, with members of the Kakamega County Fire Brigade taking on the grim task of recovering Salim's lifeless body from the pit.
