Archbishop Ole Sapit of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has ordered Crispinus ACK Bishop in Bungoma to return the money donated by President William Ruto on Sunday, December 1, 2024. The money was handed over to the Bishop by Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka on behalf of the president. The money, totalling Ksh 5 Million, has been termed as an attempt to bring shame to the Church, according to Ole Sapit.

"What happened in Bungoma was unfortunate because it was like a display of trying to see what the Anglican Church will do following the recent decision by the Catholics," the archbishop said.

Archbishop Ole Sapit claimed that the action by the president was a test for the ACK church after the catholic returned the money donated by the president at the Soweto Catholic Church in Nairobi. He continued by apologizing for what had happened at the Bungoma ACK Church and insisted that the Church would not accept money from unknown sources.

During a press conference by the National Council of Churches in Kenya (NCCK), Ole Sapit urged Kenyans to do away with the behavior of celebrating corrupt politicians. He further urged Kenyans to reject donations from politicians as most of the money is a product of corruption.

"I want to encourage all of us, as Kenyans to reject contributions by politician leaders and their appointees knowing that most of the money given was from stolen taxes," Sapit said.

This comes when the relationship between the government and the Church seems to be heading to the south. A few days after, the Kenya Council of Catholic Bishops condemned the government's conduct and policies in a press conference. The relationship seems to be moving from bad to worse.
