As of October 6, 2024, the Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced that it had registered a total of 12,704,548 members. This figure includes individuals who were previously covered under the defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and have now transitioned to SHA, in accordance with Legal Notice No. 147 of 2024.

SHA emphasizes that registration is an ongoing process, available through the USSD code *147# or via the web portals at www.sha.go.ke and www.afyayangu.go.ke.

However, the authority has observed that while many beneficiaries are registering, a significant number are not adding their dependents. “We urge all members to include their dependents to ensure they can access healthcare services as well,” SHA stated in a recent announcement.

In terms of healthcare access, SHA has confirmed that all public hospitals from Level 2 to Level 6 have been contracted and are providing services to SHA-registered beneficiaries. Additionally, as of the same date, 1,442 private and faith-based health facilities have returned signed contracts, enabling them to offer services to SHA members.

A comprehensive list of all contracted health facilities and the services they offer can be found on the SHA web portal at https://sha.go.ke/resources/categories/2

In a recent engagement with representatives from private and faith-based hospital associations, SHA reached an agreement that all remaining facilities will return duly signed contracts by Tuesday, October 8, 2024, further ensuring expanded access to healthcare services for all registered beneficiaries.
