- CBC students who will enroll in STEM courses at Kabarak University will be equipped with practical knowledge, enabling them to enter the workplace and contribute to technological advancements.
The first cohort of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) is set to transition to university in 2029. Ahead of this, Kabarak University is making significant internal moves to ensure that, within the next four years, the institution will be ready to receive these students.
Under the School of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences, programs have been reviewed to accommodate the new education system.
Dr. Catherine Cheruiyot, Head of the Department for Theology and Biblical Studies, states that Kabarak University has already approved the teaching of CBC. “We have reviewed our Bachelor’s programs to CBC. We are offering CBC-oriented courses because it is already approved,” she says.
The Kenyan education system has undergone considerable transformations, necessitating alignment with industry trends. In relation to CBC, Kabarak University has retooled its staff to fit these trends. “Kabarak University believes in staff development. Every semester, we have training for our staff, both part-time and full-time, on retooling for CBC,” Dr. Cheruiyot added.
Since its inception, CBC students have been exposed to industry practices. Given the intensity of training they have received, their expectations regarding the knowledge they will acquire at university will be high.

STEM focuses on careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The Arts and Sports Science pathway offers careers in arts, sports, and related fields. The subjects under the Arts track include music, dance, fine arts, and theatre, while the Sports Science track will cover physical education, sports, and recreation.
