Kabarak University is thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of its Bachelor of Film and Theatre Production program in May 2025, following the approval from the Commission of University Education (CUE).

This innovative course will be housed within the Department of Music and Performing Arts, part of the School of Music and Media. The program equips students with the skills needed for various roles in the film and theatre industries, including production, teaching, research, directing, and technical leadership.

Blending theory with practical application, the curriculum focuses on evolving techniques and technologies in film and theatre, fostering creativity and adaptability.

Dr. Michael Ndonye, acting Dean of the School of Music and Media, emphasizes the program's uniqueness and relevance, stating, “We want to welcome Kenyans to this program because it is one of its kind and it is going to offer an opportunity for Kenyans who want to venture into content creation and film to be able to be marketable and to gain skills for the 21st century,” he said.

Students will learn to apply their filmmaking and theatrical skills not only in educational settings but also within their communities, enhancing human development processes.

Graduates can look forward to diverse career paths in film, media, advertising, theatre, and events, with potential professions including Film/Television Producer, Cinematographer, Sound Recordist, Editor, Production Designer, Actor, Screenwriter, Stage Manager, and Dance Choreographer.

Dr. Patrick Monte, Head of the Department of Music and Performing Arts, shares the program’s vision, noting, “We expect students to develop competencies in theatre practice and utilize film and theatre as educational tools. They will engage in script analysis, writing, and interpretation, alongside mastering the integration of music in both fields.”
