In a recent discussion on the Talkchat Podcast, political analyst Dr. Michael Ndonye unpacked President William Ruto’s hidden moves, describing him as a seasoned strategist already preparing for re-election in 2027.

According to the political analyst, “President Ruto is not a political greenhorn.” He clarified that this did not mean he was endorsing or disapproving of the president, but rather stating a fact about Ruto’s deep experience in Kenya’s political landscape.

He noted that “immediately Ruto put the Bible down, like he stated, he was putting the Bible down to prepare for his re-election.”

One of the strongest moves the political analyst highlighted is Ruto’s alliance with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga. He argued that this partnership is likely to last through to 2027.

“Raila himself had said they would be working with Ruto,” the analyst observed. He explained that this was a strategic move to neutralize Ruto’s fiercest competitor, since Raila is the only figure who could give Ruto a real contest.

“Raila is ODM and ODM is Raila,” the political analyst emphasized. He added that if Raila supports Ruto, then so does the ODM party, and those within ODM who disagree should simply leave.

The political analyst also stressed that there is no permanent enmity in politics. He said that “anyone making noise about William Ruto is only jealous because they are not in government.”

As an example, he said, “ The Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Joho is in government now but I am one hundred per cent  sure Joho never voted for Ruto.” To him, this underscored that political opposition is often not ideological but circumstantial.

As the conversation drew to a close, the political analyst affirmed that Ruto’s political maneuvers already make him an “unbeatable incumbent.”

He explained that if Raila is indeed with Ruto in 2027 and Gen Z fail to register in large numbers as voters, “it is going to be very hard to remove an incumbent president even in Africa.”

In his view, Ruto is a strong presidential candidate, while the opposition is too weak to dislodge him.

“The problem is we have a weaker alternative to Ruto, so this already places him as an unbeatable incumbent,” the political analyst said.
