A mathematical formula taught in Kenyan schools has now raised controversies and curiosities among netizens as someone posed a question and asked twitter people to solve it using BODMAS some claiming it PEDMAS, while others have never heard of it in their entire lifetime.

These were some of the comments from people who wondered why and had tried the calculations to their amazement, finding different answers was the order of the day as different formulas or rather approaches arose.

No. According to Pemdas/Bodmas it'll be 9.
6÷2(1+2)
=6÷2(3)
Here we have to divide first because when it comes to division and multiplication, we have to do whatever is on the left side first. So it'll become 3(3) = 9.

The answer is 9. If you really aren't sure, your phone's pre-installed calculator will not mess you over.
6÷2(1 +2)
Inside the parenthesis first. The "P" in PEMDAS or "B" in BODMAS refers to the operations inside the parenthesis (or brackets) only.

In the uk we are taught this same rule but it’s called “bodmas”
With either 6÷2 or 2×3, we do the multiplication & division working from left to right, therefore 6÷2 comes next leaving 3(3) or 3×3, which is 9 as displayed on my calculator image below.
