• Alex Langat, recently ousted as Nakuru County Assembly's Majority Leader, was reinstated in an announcement by Speaker Joel Karuri. However, UDA members oppose the move, supporting William Mutai instead.
  • The leadership dispute has escalated tensions, with the public awaiting the final outcome of this political standoff.

Six days after being removed from office, Alex Langat, the former Majority Leader of the Nakuru County Assembly, has been reinstated. The announcement was made by the Assembly Speaker, Joel Karuri, returning Langat to a position, held by Kuresoi North Ward Representative, William Mutai.

However, members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in the County Assembly have opposed the move, demanding that Langat vacate office.

The opposition is led by Naivasha East Ward Representative, Stanley Karanja, who insists that Mutai is more deserving of the position due to greater support from party members compared to Langat.

The unrest stems from a vote conducted by UDA ward representatives on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 in which Langat was ousted over accusations of poor leadership. The representatives have remained firm, vowing not to relent in their efforts to have Langat removed from office.

This leadership battle has escalated tensions within the Nakuru County Assembly, leaving the public in suspense about what will happen next. The reinstatement of Langat by Speaker Karuri has raised concerns among some UDA members, who argue that the process of his removal was justified and should not be reversed.

Alex Langat, on the other hand, insists that proper procedures were not followed in the initial vote to remove, saying it was political-oriented.

"What transpired over the course of last week was political gymnastics, where a pronouncement was made in the house without any due diligence or proper procedure being followed," said Langat

As the leadership wrangle continues, all eyes remain on the unfolding events in Nakuru’s County Assembly, where a final decision could impact not just local governance but also the political dynamics within the UDA party in the county.
