The Member of Parliament for the Kikuyu constituency Kimani Ichung’wa has urged the president to remain strong, even as Kenyans feel betrayed by his leadership. According to Ichung’wa, Dr William Ruto is the commander-in-chief and knows best what the country needs.
“We have a government that is listening to its people. Do not listen to those who use protests to accuse the government of impunity in the police force, “Ichung’wa said.
According to Ichung’wa, police brutality taints the picture of the government.
Since the onset of the second wave of protests in Kenya this July, the UN Human Rights Office has been concerned by the widespread violence and allegations of unnecessary or disproportionate use of force, including the use of firearms, by police during protests.

On July 19, 2023, as much as most parts of the country experienced chaos by protesters, several peaceful protesters were arrested.
During the three-day protests in Kenya that happened from Wednesday to Friday in the week starting July 16, 2023, Interior Cabinet Secretary Professor Kithure Kindiki, as well as Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, issued a joint statement prompting the immediate suspension of learning for primary and secondary school going children in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu Counties which resumed on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
