The Senate has upheld the impeachment of Kisii County Deputy Governor Robert Monda, following a proposal made by the 53 members of the Kisii County Assembly.

The decision to remove Monda from office was based on several grounds, including gross misconduct, constitutional violation, abuse of office, and breach of national laws.

On February 29, 2024, Kisii MCAs impeached Robert Monda, paving the way for a Senate hearing. The Senate deliberations began on Wednesday, March 13, where the charges against the deputy governor were thoroughly examined.

After careful consideration, a majority of the Senate members found Monda guilty of the accusations that led to his impeachment.

The voting results revealed a clear stance from the Senate members. On the violation of the constitution or any other law, thirty-nine senators voted against Monda, while three senators attempted to support him.

One senator abstained from voting on this charge. Similarly, on the abuse of office charge, thirty-nine senators sided with the county assembly members, while three senators opposed the charge.

Additionally, thirty-five senators found Monda guilty of gross misconduct, with seven lawmakers voting against it. Lastly, on the violation of national laws, thirty-two senators found the deputy governor guilty, while ten senators voted against it.
