• One notable update in the circular is the availability of assessment materials on the KNEC CBA portal.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has recently released important information regarding the administration of Competency-Based Assessments (CBA) for the year 2024.

In a circular dated March 6, 2024 addressed to sub-county directors of education, heads of primary schools, and heads of special primary schools, KNEC outlined the key details and procedures for conducting these assessments.

One notable update in the circular is the availability of assessment materials on the KNEC CBA portal.

The Kenya Early Years Assessment (KEYA) for grades three and the Kenya Foundation Level Education Assessment (KFLEA) for the stage-based pathway will be uploaded onto the portal.

This ensures that educators have easy access to the necessary assessment tools for their students.

Furthermore, the circular states that Subject-Based Assessment (SBA) tools for grades four and five and intermediate levels for stage-based pathways will be available. These SBA tools will be provided in PDF format and digital format through the CBA portal.

This allows for flexibility in accessing the materials, catering to educators' varying needs and preferences. The tools will be accessible within the stipulated time frame, starting June 3, 2024, and continuing until September 30.

It is important to note that teachers will access SBA tools for foundation and intermediate levels in PDF format. This digital format allows for easy distribution and utilization of the materials in the classroom.

Additionally, the circular emphasizes that headteachers must keep all records and evidence generated from the assessment. This requirement ensures that the assessment process is transparent and accountable.

The circular provides a clear roadmap for educators, with a detailed schedule for assessing different tools and a deadline for uploading scores. This information allows schools to prepare and plan to adequately administer Competency-Based Assessments in 2024.
