• For now, the gates of Ichaweri remain closed to the spontaneous delegation, with all parties agreeing on one sentiment shared by the former President's office: "Let us always choose dialogue over disruption and engagement over division.

What began as a youth‑driven initiative branded “Road to Ichaweri”—a proposed visit to former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Gatundu home has been formally declined by his office.

The momentum started with digital posters circulating under the banner “Road to Ishaweri”, claiming Gen‑Z groups from across Kenya would converge “to show respect to our Former Head of State.”

On February 22, 2026, Kanze Dena Mararo, Secretary of Communication for the Office of the 4th President, acknowledged the enthusiasm of young Kenyans but emphasized the need for structured, peaceful dialogue through proper channels.

She clarified that while the former President remains open to exchanging views in a dignified manner, he was not in a position to host the group.

“We encourage organizers of such initiatives to formally communicate with the Office in advance so that arrangements can be made for structured, peaceful, and meaningful dialogue,” Kanze Dena stated.

Earlier, on February 7, Jubilee Party Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta had cautioned the public against misleading information alleging a planned event at the home of their Party Leader.

“The Party categorically states that no such event exists. These claims are false, unauthorized, and misleading,” Ole Kenta asserted.

Organizers Cite Security Risks

By the morning of February 23, 2026, the Young & Emerging Leaders Advocacy Forum (YELAF), the primary organizers, officially pulled the plug.

In a public notice announcing the postponement, the steering committee explained the decision was made “following the receipt of credible intelligence indicating mobilization of goons to cause disruption and disorder.”

The group defended its intent, noting the initiative was “inspired by the long‑standing public encouragement by Uhuru Kenyatta for young people to step forward into leadership.”

Despite cancellation, YELAF maintained it had already registered and confirmed participants internally.

“YELAF has taken the responsible decision to postpone the Road to Ichaweri convening of 23rd February in the interest of safety, peace, and public order,” the organizers concluded.

Jubilee Party reiterates that youth remain key stakeholders in Kenya’s present and future, especially heading into the 2027 elections. But it insisted that future engagements must be conducted through official party platforms, including the Jubilee Party Youth League.

For now, the gates of Ichaweri remain closed to the delegation. All parties converge on one sentiment echoed by Uhuru’s office:

“Let us always choose dialogue over disruption and engagement over division.”
