A building that was under construction has collapsed early on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, near the OTC area along Kirinyaga Road in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), emergency response teams and authorities have confirmed.
Responding quickly, a multi-agency rescue operation was launched involving the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade, the National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC), the National Police Service, and the Kenya Red Cross Society.
In an update shared on X, the Red Cross confirmed the deployment of response personnel to the collapse scene. However, authorities noted that details regarding the cause of the collapse and the full extent of the damage remain unclear, as investigations are still ongoing.
According to national television, the coordinated efforts led to the successful rescue of some six workers who had been trapped in the debris.
Rescue teams reported that while six workers sustained injuries, authorities are yet to release information on what caused the collapse, and investigations are ongoing. Police say teams will look into why construction was taking place at night.
