The Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, has announced that the Government is intensifying efforts to combat rising cases of human trafficking and sexual violence, including child defilement.
Through a statement on August 7, 2025, the CS says to achieve this, the government is strengthening the capacity of the anti-narcotics unit at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

While praising Kericho County for its reputation as one of the most peaceful regions in the country, Murkomen has acknowledged that the county is not without its flaws, vices that demand urgent attention.
“Our Jukwaa La Usalama forums have also given new impetus to the fight on second-generation alcohol and cannabis, among other drugs, in Kericho and other parts of the country,” he said.

Murkomen has urged police officers to intensify the crackdown and called on the public to rally behind the Government in its war against these social ills.
Kericho’s peaceful status, he notes, is largely due to the close working relationship between security agencies, administrative officers, and members of the public. However, challenges persist.
“Second-generation alcohol, gender-based violence, child defilement, cattle rustling, and land disputes need more of our attention,” Murkomen emphasized.
To protect children from sexual predators, the Government is enhancing the anti-narcotics unit’s capabilities to address the intertwined issues of drug abuse, human trafficking, and sexual violence.
As part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving the quality of policing and boosting officer morale, Murkomen revealed that promotions will be granted on merit to long-serving officers.
Murkomen has also highlighted the Government’s commitment to enhancing security in areas with high student populations.
Police posts around universities and colleges are being upgraded to ensure safety and swift response to incidents.
On the recurring issue of cattle rustling particularly along the Kericho-Kisumu border, Murkomen notes that enhanced security measures, including surveillance of slaughterhouses where stolen livestock are trafficked, have led to a noticeable decline in cases.
Even as the Government seeks additional resources to improve security and administrative infrastructure, Murkomen has affirmed that partnerships, especially with the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) are being strengthened to complement these efforts.
