• The Mashariki Cooperation Conference convenes intelligence agencies from the continent and beyond to discuss strategies to combat security challenges.

The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has called for renewed collaboration and cooperation among security and intelligence organizations in Africa. Murkomen was speaking during the opening of the Mashariki Cooperation Conference held in Naivasha.

“Security challenges are becoming more transnational and unpredictable, threatening the stability of countries and entire regions. To effectively confront these threats and at the same time respond to rapid shifts in world security architecture, there is a need for renewed collaboration and cooperation among security and intelligence organizations in Africa,” he said.

CS Murkomen opened the second Mashariki Cooperation Conference under the theme, 'Consolidating and Deepening our Intelligence Cooperation Towards Regional and Continental Peace and Stability.'

The 5-day conference brings together intelligence security chiefs from Africa and participants from other continents.

Murkomen has called for more African technological innovations to counter emerging threats and promote self-reliance in security.

The opening ceremony was also graced by H.E. Juan Antonio Bibang Nchuchuma, Minister to the Presidency of the Republic in Charge of Foreign Security, Equatorial Guinea, H.E. Henri Wanzet-Linguissara, Minister, Special Advisor from Central African Republic, Hon. Nelson Koech, Chairperson, Parliamentary Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations and Mr. Noordin Haji, the Director General National Intelligence Service-Kenya.
