Seven members of a family have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident that occurred on Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway in the early hours of Monday, March 31, 2025.

The victims were returning home after making burial arrangements for their late uncle, whose funeral was scheduled for Monday 31, 2025 in Longonot, Nakuru County.

Among the deceased are three adults who died on the spot and two children, aged eight and seventeen, who succumbed to their injuries shortly after the crash. Two more victims, who had been rushed to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, passed away in the morning.

Francis Gashengo Kirobe, a grieving family member, shared his heartbreak over the tragic loss. He revealed that the family had gathered the previous day for a memorial service at Mirera Primary School. After the service, the victims bid their farewells and headed home. However, tragedy struck when they joined the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road, where the accident occurred.

Kirobe recounted how he first heard distress calls from family members and later received confirmation of the devastating accident.

“At first, I couldn’t get clear details, but when my children arrived home crying, I knew something terrible had happened,” he said. He attempted to rush to the accident scene but was advised to stay back while other family members went to the district hospital to gather information.

The grieving father confirmed that the victims included three of his brothers, their three children, and a neighbor. He added that discussions were ongoing regarding the burial arrangements, which could take place in Naivasha, Nakuru, or Limuru.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but Francis noted that the road conditions appeared to be in good shape. The family continues to mourn their loss as they prepare for the burial of their loved ones.

This tragic incident adds to the growing concern over road safety in Kenya, as families call for more stringent measures to prevent such devastating accidents.
