The Cabinet has implemented the Airport Charter to enhance operational efficiency through improved agency coordination, a move that showcases its commitment to position Kenya as an aviation hub.

Four Cabinet Secretaries (CSs); Kipchumba Murkomen of Interior and National Administration, Rebecca Miano of Tourism and Wildlife, John Mbadi of the National Treasury and Economic Planning, and Davis Chirchir of Roads and Transport had been charged with its implementation.

According to a joint press statement by the four CSs on January 31, 2025, the charter shall be in place within seven days. It will also provide guidance on governance, escalation mechanism, monitoring and evaluation.

“To uphold traveller dignity and privacy, only bags flagged by security scanners will be opened in a dedicated screening room. This aims to enhance security while ensuring a respectful and seamless travel experience,” read the statement in part.

The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano has reiterated the Cabinet’s intention of ensuring that flight travel experience is as comfortable as possible.

“We're intentional on improving our travelers' experience and addressing the concerns raised by our valuable clients. Today, we've pronounced ourselves to some of the immediate steps we've taken as we endeavour to make Jomo Kenyatta International Airport facility and the services provided thereof one of the best globally,” CS Rebecca Miano said.

She has added that the Airport Charter will go a long way in projecting the number of tourists visiting Kenya.

“For the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife to realise and achieve our projected numbers, the welfare of any traveller; inbound or on transit remains paramount, “she said.
