As the country heads to the festive season, people travel to be with their loved ones, and the country expects to receive many tourists. The government has laid out security measures to protect the citizens, and any threat is dealt with and neutralized.

In a press conference on December 3, 2024, the Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department of Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo revealed that the government has put together a security agency, with security enhancement in the airports, border points, hotels, malls, beaches, places of worship, tourist sites, and critical infrastructure across significant towns.

Additionally, the PS stated that the public should expect tightened security as the government intends to deploy 10,000 officers nationwide, including the all-female SWAT, to deal with Gender Violence (GBV).

He also disclosed the establishment of several command centres, with Langara Barracks being the main centre for the security agencies' coordination. He also disclosed that the Kenya Defence Forces officers, Kenya Forest Service, The Kenya Police and The Kenya Wildlife Service would ensure smooth coordination of the command centres.

"The Ministry Of Defense is expected to support the Regional and County Security Committees and the agencies by providing logistical and aircrafts to implement the raft of measures announced by the Ministry of Interior to counter security threats during this holiday," said the PS.

Additionally, proprietors of shopping malls, entertainment joints, and event organizers are urged to collaborate with local security teams to strengthen private security efforts in liaison with the Private Security Regulatory Authority.

"Kenyans should also expect to see more police presence and visibility, because we have deployed more specialized units including the all-female Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) Unit and undercover Officers, alongside the General Duty Police, to intensify patrols and heighten surveillance in the major towns, places of worship and critical infrastructure areas," he added.
