- Chief Justice Martha Koome presided over the event, where Prof. Kindiki took two solemn oaths: the oath of allegiance and the oath of due execution of office.
In a formal ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Prof. Kithure Kindiki has been sworn in as the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, marking a significant moment as he becomes the third individual to hold this office under the 2010 Constitution.
Chief Justice Martha Koome presided over the event, where Prof. Kindiki took two solemn oaths: the oath of allegiance and the oath of due execution of office.
The ceremony commenced shortly before 11 a.m. when Prof. Kindiki signed the oaths, officially committing himself to the responsibilities of his new position and to upholding the law in service to the Kenyan people. Each oath was countersigned by Chief Justice Koome, who also affixed her official seal with the help of court officials. The signed documents were subsequently handed over to the Attorney General for safekeeping.
In a symbolic gesture, President William Ruto was invited to the stage by the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary to officially hand over the Constitution of Kenya to his new Deputy. The ceremony concluded with a photo session that included President Ruto, Deputy President Kindiki, Chief Justice Koome, the First Lady, and Prof. Kindiki’s spouse, capturing the moment of this important transition.
Prof. Kindiki’s swearing-in follows the impeachment of his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, by Parliament for alleged gross violations of the Constitution. His appointment signals a new chapter in Kenya’s leadership as the government continues to navigate challenges and uphold constitutional governance.
