- Senator for Makueni County, Dan Maanzo has made serious allegations against President William Ruto and Former Opposition Leader Raila Odinga of being bribed by the Adani Group, an Indian–based multinational company.
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has alleged that President William Ruto and Former Opposition Leader Raila Odinga were bribed by the Adani Group, an Indian–based multinational company.
In an interview on October 15, 2024, Senator Dan Maanzo alleged that the multinational company, has been funding President William Ruto and Raila Odinga. He added that the bribes, which run into billions of shillings, have compromised the independence of these two leaders, resulting in questionable appointment decisions of cabinet members, precisely that of Opiyo Wandayi as Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Energy and Petroleum.
“President William Ruto and Raila Odinga have been bribed with billions of shillings by the Adani group, and that is why Opiyo Wandayi is the CS of Energy and Petroleum. Adani also sponsored Raila’s 2012 presidential campaign,” he said.
Maanzo has also argued that Adani Group had sponsored Raila’s 2012 presidential campaigns, stating that Adani's backing had compromised the former Prime Minister’s objectivity. "Raila Odinga admitted that he knew these companies up to 2010, when he was Prime Minister, and it was one of the companies sponsoring his campaigns,” he added.
As the situation continues to unfold, neither President William Ruto, former Prime minister Raila Odinga or the Adani group have responded into the accusations, leaving the nation in suspense. This has left Kenyans raising concerns regarding the integrity of the Kenyan Government.
