“While the impeachment process is rooted in our Constitution under Articles 145 and 150, it was disheartening to witness the National Assembly acting like a mere rubber stamp,” Karua stated, expressing her concerns about the integrity of the legislative body.

Karua emphasized that justice should be impartial, stating, “The system must be fair to all individuals, regardless of their circumstances or political affiliations.” She acknowledged Gachagua's faults but asserted that, like any citizen, he deserves due process rather than what she described as “mob lynching.”

“What we must recognize is that participating in or condoning the violation of another person’s rights sets a dangerous precedent for our own rights,” she warned. Karua accused the National Assembly of manipulating a constitutional process with impunity, sacrificing the ideals of constitutionalism for self-preservation.

She did, however, commend a minority of Assembly members who approached the debate with a sense of sobriety, reminding the public that “the circumstances surrounding Gachagua today should serve as a lesson for all in authority: power is transient, and tomorrow it could be you facing similar scrutiny.”

Karua further expressed concern about the current state of the legislature, particularly during a time when significant issues are at stake. “Kenya urgently needs a watchdog to address critical matters such as the controversial Adani airport concession, power transmission deals, and the ongoing violations of citizens' access to health and education,” she noted.

She also referenced a troubling proposal to extend presidential term limits and a Constitutional Amendment Bill that has already been tabled in the Senate.

“It is high time we recognize that we must stand united to defend our Constitution and restore good governance and human dignity, which the Ruto regime is undermining,” Karua concluded, urging Kenyans to be vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their rights and freedoms.
