As the 2024 national examinations and assessments approach, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is taking significant steps to ensure a smooth and credible process. TSC Director of Staffing, Antonina Lentoijoni, has announced the deployment of highly competent officers to oversee the administration of this year’s examinations, emphasizing a strict policy against conflicts of interest. “No one will be deployed to centers where they have interests,” Lentoijoni stated.

Dr. Belio Kipsang, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Basic Education, has echoed the importance of adherence to guidelines designed to prevent malpractice. “We call upon all our stakeholders to adhere to the guidelines given to guard against all sorts of malpractices, enhancing the credibility, validity, and reliability of the examinations and assessments,” he urged.

Kipsang also congratulated the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) for successfully migrating to electronic assessment and marking systems for teacher examinations.

Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, has pledged full support in leveraging technology to maintain examination integrity. “We are pleased to see the innovations that have been implemented to uphold the integrity of assessments, and I commend KNEC for the progress it has made in conducting e-assessments,” he remarked.

Education Cabinet Secretary Hon. Julius Ogamba delivered a stern warning against examination malpractices: “The government shall have no mercy on anyone found engaging in these activities. When we compromise our examinations, we compromise the standards of our certificates.”

KNEC officially launched the 2024 national examinations and assessments season on October 4, 2024, preparing to administer the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) to 965,501 candidates across 10,565 centers, and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) to 1,303,913 candidates in 35,573 centers.

In total, over 2.27 million candidates will participate in this year’s assessments. The KCSE Examinations are scheduled to begin on October 18, 2024 with rehearsals. The main tests will run from October 22 to November 22, 2024. Additionally, the KEPSEA examinations will kick off on October 28, 2024.
