The 19-year-old, Ian Njoroge, is facing severe legal trouble following his assault on a 55-year-old police officer. The police officer, identified as Jacob Ogendo, is a Kasarani traffic police officer who was on duty at Mirema junction on Kamiti road when the drama unfolded.
Ogendo spotted a salon car making a U-turn that obstructed other road users. He approached the vehicle in an attempt to clear the road. The driver tried to flee, but the escape bid failed upon hitting a kerb.
His miscalculation helped the officer get hold of him. He led the driver to the police station, but the destination remained beyond reach when they approached Quick Mart supermarket.
"Upon reaching quick mart supermarket the driver stopped, pulled out a sword under the seat, making the officer jump out to save his life. The driver however, followed him with kicks and blows," read the police report.
The altercation escalated, leading the officer to fall into a nearby ditch; Ian, having his victim under his feet, took his mobile phone battery and took off.
