Kenyan health authorities and pharmaceutical bodies have warned against the dangerous misuse of Cetirizine, an oral allergy medication, following a viral social media trend encouraging women to insert the tablets into their vaginas for alleged tightening and reduced sexual desire. Health experts have dismissed the claims, warning that the practice could cause vaginal irritation, burning, soreness and infections. Authorities are urging the public to avoid medical advice from unverified online sources and use medicines only as prescribed.
Kenyan health authorities and pharmaceutical bodies have issued a strong warning against inserting Cetirizine (an oral allergy medication) into the vagina. The warning follows a viral social media trend claiming that the drug can be used for "vaginal tightening" or to suppress sexual desire.
The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) clarified that while antihistamines can cause dryness as a side effect, reducing natural lubrication does not strengthen or tighten vaginal muscles.
Forcing dryness increases friction during intercourse, which can lead to severe pain, abrasions, and tissue injury.
