How Eldoret Man Allegedly Made KSh 15 million in Two Years by Scamming Unsuspecting Kenyans
A recruitment agency director, who had evaded detectives for almost two years, was arraigned at the Eldoret Law Courts on Friday, October 30, over an alleged KSh 15 million overseas job scam.
Isaac Kipkemoi Barmasai was charged with obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code. The case will be mentioned on November 4, 2026.
Barmasai is the sole director of Eldoret-based Proline Travel Advisors Limited. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said he was arrested by detectives from the DCI headquarters, the Operations Action Team and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, working together with officers from DCI Turbo.
According to investigators, the suspect ran a fraudulent recruitment scheme targeting Kenyans who were seeking employment opportunities abroad.
Through his agency, he allegedly promised job seekers well-paying employment opportunities in Sweden, Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada. However, the promised jobs never materialized, leaving victims without the money they had paid as recruitment and processing fees.
