Kajiado South, popularly known as Loitoktok, is where Kenya's tourism, Maasai heritage and cross-border trade converge. Sitting at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro and bordering Tanzania, it is one of Kajiado County's most strategic constituencies, with Amboseli National Park driving both the local economy and national tourism.

Beyond tourism, the constituency depends on pastoralism, irrigated farming and trade through the Loitoktok border. While the Maasai community remains the dominant cultural force, gradual urbanisation and economic growth are reshaping both livelihoods and politics.

Kajiado South Constituency was established in 1963 and covers approximately 6,337 km². According to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census, it has a population of 191,846 people and is currently represented by Hon. Samuel Parashina Sakimba.

Political Behaviour

Kajiado South remains one of Kajiado County's most competitive constituencies. Elections are determined by issues such as tourism, livestock, water, roads, education and land use rather than party loyalty alone. Having elected MPs from TNA, Jubilee and ODM over the last three elections, the constituency has established itself as an important political battleground ahead of 2027.

Infrastructure & Economy

Tourism remains Kajiado South's biggest economic driver, with Amboseli National Park supporting hotels, lodges and thousands of jobs. Livestock farming continues to sustain many households, while irrigation in Kimana and Rombo has expanded horticultural production.

Loitoktok also acts as a key trade gateway with Tanzania, supporting commerce and transport. However, drought, human-wildlife conflict and pressure on land continue to challenge development.

NG-CDF and Development Schemes

Hon. Samuel Parashina Sakimba has focused NG-CDF investments on education and community infrastructure. Recent projects include the construction and renovation of classrooms, bursary support for learners and improvements to public learning facilities across the constituency.

Development Outlook

Kajiado South continues to benefit from tourism, agriculture and cross-border trade, but residents are increasingly demanding better roads, water, healthcare and education services. With its key location and diverse economy, the constituency is expected to remain one of Kajiado County's key political battlegrounds in the 2027 General Election.
