Nakuru Town East was established in 2010 following the split of the larger Nakuru Town Constituency to cater to the growing urban population of Nakuru City. It covers the eastern part of Nakuru city and is a hub of commerce, transport, and services.

The constituency is compact, urban-centered, and plays a critical role in shaping Nakuru County’s political direction due to its high voter concentration and economic influence

Nakuru Town East Constituency stands as one of the most strategic urban political battlegrounds in Nakuru County.

As a densely populated, commerce-driven area, it has consistently mirrored national political trends while rewarding leaders who deliver tangible urban development.

Political Dynamics Toward 2027

Nakuru Town East has proven to be a loyalty-based urban constituency. It rode the Jubilee wave strongly from 2013 to 2017 before aligning with UDA in 2022. The constituency’s politics tend to follow national trends rather than purely local issues.

Key Issues for 2027 Voters:

  1. Urban infrastructure (roads, housing, drainage, and water)
  2. Youth unemployment and business opportunities in the city
  3. Security and management of informal settlements
  4. Real estate development and land disputes
  5. Improved market access and support for small traders

David Gikaria’s strength lies in his long experience from former Mayor of Nakuru to three-term MP. However, the narrower 2022 margin suggests that voters are becoming more demanding.

Economic & Social Significance

As the commercial eastern wing of Nakuru City, the constituency benefits from:

  1. Strategic location along the Nairobi–Kisumu highway and SGR corridor
  2. Rising real estate demand after Nakuru gained city status
  3. Vibrant small business and transport sectors
  4. Proximity to educational and health institutions

Its urban nature makes it a trendsetter for issues affecting Kenya’s secondary cities.
