WhatsApp has evolved from a simple app that allowed users to share status to a messaging platform that has been developing advanced features ever since.
An estimate reveals that as of March 27, 2025, the app had 2 billion monthly active users worldwide. This could be attributed to the advanced features the app’s developers keep adding to it every year.
However, although these features are there, not everyone is familiar with some of WhatsApp's recent additions.
For example, you may not have known of the Meta AI feature introduced on WhatsApp in early 2024.
This feature allows you to interact with AI through messaging. You can ask AI questions or ask it to generate images, and you get instant answers or feedback. Once provided with the answers or feedback, a user can proceed to share it with others if need be.

Another feature you may not know is the events feature, which was introduced in March 2024. This feature enables all WhatsApp users to create events within group chats, including online meetings and birthdays.
The feature also allows other members within the group to confirm whether they can attend the event. Later, reminders are automatically sent, notifying all the group members about the event.
Previously, one could react to another’s status through emojis and words. Although that still exists, a new like feature was rolled out early last year in 2024. This was designed to enable you, as a WhatsApp user, to show someone that you are thinking of them or enjoying their status with just a tap of a button.
A more recent feature added is the music feature, which allows WhatsApp users to add music to their posts like on Instagram or Facebook. It also enables users to listen to music or artists (local or international) of their choice through a search menu in the app.
Not to worry if one of these features is not available for you right now. You may be able to see it once you update your WhatsApp.
