The Social Healthcare Authority (SHA) is set to host a sensitization session regarding the SHA Employer Portal and registration process on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Taking place both virtually and in-person at the SHA Auditorium from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, the session aims to provide employers with key insights into the portal, the registration process, and compliance requirements, while also addressing any questions related to contributions.
As a pivotal program in Kenya, the SHA is designed to provide healthcare services to residents as part of the country's broader initiative for universal health coverage (UHC).
Established through the enhancement of the Social Health Insurance Act in November 2023, the SHA officially began operations on October 1, 2024, succeeding the former National Health Fund (NHIF).
The Authority’s mandate is to offer affordable, accessible, and quality health insurance to all Kenyans. To achieve this, the SHA manages three distinct funds: the Social Health Insurance Fund, the Emergency, Chronic, and Critical Illness Fund, and the Primary Healthcare Fund, collectively supporting a comprehensive approach to healthcare.

Employers play a crucial role in this system, as they are required to register all employees on the SHA online platform, with each employee contributing 2.75% of their gross salary, subject to a minimum deduction of Kshs 300.
The SHA portal allows both employers and employees to track payments, manage deadlines, and submit contributions to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
To register with the SHA as an employer, one must visit the SHA website, select the option to create an Employer Account, and fill out the required information, including the business's registration certificate and KRA certificate.
After verifying the account, employers can register their employees and submit SHIF contributions. For those who prefer a personal touch, registration can also be completed manually at a local SHA registration center.
