The elections will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on February 15 and 16, 2025, with the newly elected chairperson needing to secure the backing of two-thirds of the 55 eligible voting nations, underscoring the collaborative spirit required at the helm of the continent's premier political body.
Three prominent candidates are vying for the esteemed position: Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister of Kenya and; Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; and Richard Randriamandrato, Madagascar’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
