• ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has raised concerns over recent leadership changes within the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party, warning against interference in ODM’s affairs.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga has cautioned against interference in the party’s affairs amid ongoing leadership changes within the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party.

Speaking during an ODM National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Mombasa on February 11, 2026, Oburu emphasized that while ODM distanced itself from Azimio long ago, the party has yet to formally complete its exit from the coalition.

He warned former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Azimio’s patron, against meddling in ODM’s internal matters.

“We left Azimio the moment we joined the broad‑based government. That was the end of Azimio. What remains now are only the formalities to make our exit official,” said Oburu.

The History of Azimio

Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party was founded on March 12, 2022, bringing together ODM, Jubilee, NARC–Kenya, KANU, and other parties.

The coalition sponsored Raila Odinga as its presidential candidate, with Martha Karua as his running mate, in the 2022 General Election, which they lost.

Since then, Azimio has faced membership changes. In July 2024, Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (formerly NARC–Kenya) withdrew from the coalition.

On February 2, 2026, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was named Azimio coalition leader during a joint NEC and Council meeting chaired by Uhuru Kenyatta.

Suba South Member of Parliament (MP)Caroli Omondi was appointed Secretary General, while Philip Kisia took over as Executive Director.

Dispute Over Leadership Changes

ODM quickly contested the changes, saying it was not consulted. The Registrar of Political Parties has since temporarily suspended the appointments, pending resolution of ODM’s complaint.
