In the aftermath of new government appointments, Kenyan netizens have expressed discontent with the President, saying he has failed to honour some of his promises to the people.

On August 23, 2024, President Ruto appointed two additional advisors from among his former Cabinet Secretaries. Moses Kuria, formerly the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery, has been appointed the Senior Advisor in the Council of Economic Advisors. Moses Kuria also earlier served as the Cabinet Secretary for Trade, Investments, and Industry.

Furthermore, the former Cabinet Secretary in charge of ICT, Eliud Owalo, has been reappointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Performance. His duties include implementing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformative Agenda and performing performance oversight of Government ministries, departments, and agencies.

Additionally, Dennis Itumbi, previously the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Information, Communication, and Digital Economy, has been appointed head of Creative Economy and Special Projects.

These appointments come in the wake of the protests by the Gen Z population that rocked the country in June and July 2024. President William Ruto made several concessions to quell these protests, including reducing the number of his advisors by 50 per cent.

Netizens have taken to social media to express their discontent. Here are some of the comments on X:

Ruto has failed as President by not honouring what the people of Kenya want.

Ruto! How does he fire CSs because of inefficiency and malpractice, then hire the same guys after a month? Are there no other Kenyans?

@AdolfKenya

There have been appointments left, right, and centre, yet there's no money to employ JSS teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. Seemingly, all the fired CSs will be hired in different capacities. What an insult to Kenyans!
