Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has taken action to address the plight of students who were left stranded due to the unexpected postponement of school opening dates.

In a statement, Governor Sakaja announced that measures were being implemented to ensure the safe return of these students to their homes.

Governor Sakaja emphasized, "Following the postponement of School Opening Dates and the fact that many parents had already released their children to report to school this morning, we have organized the payment of return fare for the stranded students. My teams are at various bus stations sorting out transport for children in uniform as they make their way back home."

The decision to postpone the school opening dates was made by the government, as stated in a press release signed by Dr. Ezekiel Machogu, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Education. The new starting date has been rescheduled from Monday, April 29 to Monday, May 6, 2024.

This cautious step was taken following a directive issued last week, which required all basic education learning institutions to submit reports on the impact of the rain on their readiness to welcome back the learners.
