- The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Epra) recently announced price reductions for petroleum products.
In a recent statement, Nominated Senator Veronica Maina defended the Kenya Kwanza government, stating that it faithfully implements the programs it pledged to the people.
Speaking at KTN News on April 16, 2024, Veronica said the government's manifesto was discussed extensively with Kenyans in every county, fostering a dialogue between the president and the citizens.
"There was a dialogue in every county, between the president, and the people of Kenya. And out of the dialogue that was had, there was a robust drafting of a manifesto that suited the needs of the Kenyans," she said.
Maina attributed the frustrations voiced by those in the opposition to the successful implementation of the government's manifesto, mainly its focus on agriculture, health, and citizen empowerment.
"The frustration of the people who are in the opposition camp is because of the implementation of that manifesto, which focuses on agriculture, health, and programmes that are pushing the citizens to the next level," she added.

Addressing the opposition's criticism regarding the cost of living, Maina highlighted significant decreases in fuel and flour prices. She emphasized that the declining prices substantiated the government's efforts to improve the lives of Kenyan citizens.
Notably, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) recently announced price reductions for petroleum products.
In the latest review, the price of a litre of Super petrol has decreased by Sh5.31, diesel by Sh10 per litre, and kerosene by Sh18.68 per litre.
In Nairobi, the prices per litre are as follows: Super petrol will retail at Sh193.84, diesel at Sh180.38, and kerosene at Sh170.06.
For residents of Mombasa, the prices are slightly lower, with super petrol priced at Sh190.66 per litre, diesel at Sh177.21 per litre, and kerosene at Sh166.99 per litre.
In Nakuru, the fuel price is Sh192.90 for super petrol, Sh179.82 for diesel, and Sh169.56 for kerosene.
These revised prices were enacted on April 14 and will remain in place until May 14, 2024.
EPRA said that the prices include a 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) by the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020, and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.
It is worth noting that this reduction in fuel prices follows a previous review in March, during which EPRA lowered diesel prices by Sh5.09 per litre and kerosene prices by Sh4.49 per litre.
