Former Royal Media Services TV journalist Kimani Mbugua is again reaching out for assistance months after recovering from adversity.

In a social media post on Saturday, March 23, 2024, Mbugua revealed that he was attacked while filming content on TikTok.

"Guys, I was mugged this morning while I was live on TikTok by a guy with a machete," he shared.

The incident occurred while he was strolling in the Jomoko area, Thika sub-county.

"I injured my leg and hand, but I'm managing. I reported the incident to Kiandutu Police Station under OB No 05/23/03/2024," Mbugua explained.

He stated that he lost his Samsung A34, valued at around KSh37,000. Mbugua had obtained the phone with funds raised by Kenyans online last October following his public appeal.

"I lost my Samsung A34, which you guys purchased for me. I was using it to create content... Anyway, Kenyan Police, please assist me in recovering it," he pleaded.

Kimani Mbugua attended a mental health retreat on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Maranatha Restoration Home in Thika and shared some advice.

"Taking breaks for mental health is crucial. If you hit a low point, especially if you suffer from conditions like bipolar disorder and chronic depression, don't hesitate to take a break and seek mental health support," he said.

In 2023, Kimani Mbugua had opened up in a social media video that went viral on September 24 about his ongoing struggle with mental health, the loss of his career, and his dire circumstances.

In the video, he expressed his desire to move forward and not return to where he once was.

He shared the emotional toll the past few years had taken on him, including the loss of friendships and diminishing support from those around him.

After acquiring filming equipment, Mbugua launched his new show, "Unbroken," on October 14, 2023. He expressed gratitude to Kenyans for contributing funds to help him rebuild his life after a period in rehabilitation due to drug addiction.

"I'm overwhelmed with gratitude and want to thank you. To everyone who donated, thank you so much for helping me get back on my feet. Today, I received equipment, a new filming device, and a microphone, which means I can return to the streets where I belong," he stated in a video.

Earlier, a prominent TikToker rallied her followers to raise Ksh420,000 for the former TV journalist.
