Lupita Nyong’o, the Oscar-winning actress and star of the upcoming movie A Quiet Place: Day One, has revealed some details about her personal life in a candid interview with PORTER magazine.

Nyong’o spoke about her recent breakup with TV host Selema Masekela, whom she dated for over a year.

Nyong’o said that she was living in “a lot of pain and heartbreak” after discovering that Masekela had deceived her and ended their relationship abruptly.

"I looked at the environment of my social media and thought I don’t want to be a part of this illusion that everything is always coming up roses," she stated.

Despite feeling the urge to “run into the shadows and hide” from the world, she decided to face her pain and learn from it.

She said that her purpose in life is to love and that she had to get back into the dating scene.

Furthermore, Nyong’o confirmed the rumors that she is now dating Canadian actor Joshua Jackson.

Nyong’o and Jackson were first spotted together in October 2023, shortly after Jackson announced his separation from his wife, Jodie Turner-Smith.

The two have since been seen enjoying romantic getaways in Mexico and France, where they celebrated Nyong’o’s 41st birthday.

The Kenyan born actress said that she is very happy with Jackson and that he is a “wonderful human being” who makes her laugh and feel appreciated.

Nyong’o also talked about her career, and how she is excited to return to the big screen with A Quiet Place: Day One, a prequel to the hit horror film A Quiet Place. Nyong’o plays the lead role of Evelyn Abbott, a mother who tries to protect her family from deadly creatures that hunt by sound.

Nyong’o said that she was drawn to the role because of the challenge of acting with minimal dialogue, and the opportunity to work with John Krasinski, who directed and co-wrote the film.
