• CS Moses Kuria highlighted the employment prospects for NYS recruits upon completing their training.

On February 2, 2024, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Moses Kuria met with National Youth Service (NYS) recruiting officers to discuss the upcoming national recruitment of 15,000 NYS recruits.

During the briefing, Kuria emphasized the importance of a transparent and verifiable recruitment process, acknowledging past flaws and pledging to rectify them to ensure equal opportunities for all candidates.

Moses Kuria stressed the significance of a transparent and verifiable recruitment process. Recognizing the flaws in previous recruitment exercises, Kuria expressed determination to rectify them this time, aiming to provide every candidate with an equal opportunity.

The upcoming recruitment exercise will adopt a ward-based approach, considering each ward's population.

CS Moses Kuria highlighted the employment prospects for NYS recruits upon completing their training.

“In 2023, His Excellency President William Ruto directed the National Police Service, Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Forestry Service to recruit 80% of their pool from NYS. Majority of the recruits, therefore, stand a chance to be absorbed into these institutions following the completion of their training,” he said in a statement on X.

Kuria added that NYS is pivotal in the government's ongoing Labor Export Programme. Under this initiative, NYS servicemen and women are being prepared for overseas deployment.

“We plan to export NYS servicemen and women overseas. The Labour Export process is underway as we have already begun facilitating the issuing of passports at NYS Headquarters in Ruaraka,” he added.

With approximately 70% of its population consisting of youth, Kenya recognizes the importance of harnessing the potential of its young citizens to drive economic transformation. CS Moses Kuria reiterated the government's commitment to equal opportunities for every young person.

The recruitment process will run from February 5 to February 9, 2024 across all the country before another round of recruitment in July.
