Reacting to a video that surfaced online of a team rescuing a baby thrown in a pit latrine, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has criticized the habit of women leaving their babies to die as an excuse of being unable to raise them on their own.

Through a tweet, the former Governor has instead offered to raise babies, saying that women who feel they are unable to raise children should bring them to him.

“Huyu mtoto alipatikana asubui kama ametupwa kwa choo na mamake. I've said it before na nitasema tena, madem mkifeel hamuezi kulea watoi msiwadhulumu kivyovote, waleteni kwangu nitawalea vizuri.” (This child was found this morning in a pit latrine. Ladies, if you feel you can’t raise a child, please, bring them to me.)

Sonko’s remarks has sparked reactions on twitter, with many sympathizing with the baby, saying it was against humanity for a baby to be thrown away. Some have also praised the team and the former Governor for his act of kindness.
