•  County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Stephen Kuria, notes that labor for the construction works would be sourced locally, as a deliberate effort to involve the community and stimulate economic activity at the grassroots level.

Nakuru County has stepped up its commitment to improving market infrastructure and creating better trading conditions for residents, following the official handing over of the Mauche and Nessuit Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) market sites in Njoro Sub-county on July 9, 2025.

The projects, which are being implemented through a partnership between the County Government and the National Government, are expected to revitalize local commerce, generate jobs, and uplift living standards in the region.

Speaking during the event, County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Stephen Kuria, noted that labor for the construction works would be sourced locally, as a deliberate effort to involve the community and stimulate economic activity at the grassroots level.

“Labor for the construction works would be sourced locally, as a deliberate effort to involve the community and stimulate economic activity at the grassroots level, ”he said.

Also speaking at the event, Chief Officers Bernard Koech (Trade), Dr. Charles Koech (Public Service), and Kamau Kuria (Housing and Urban Development) reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to inclusive development.

They emphasized that the market projects would benefit all residents through job creation, better access to trading spaces, and improved service delivery. The market infrastructure, they noted, will also contribute to the overall development of the region by creating a more organized and efficient trading environment.

Representing the National Government, Nakuru Housing Director Nicholas Ogajo stated that the markets would be built to the same standards as others across the country, featuring modern facilities and utilities.

“We are building these markets to national standards,” Mr. Ogajo said. “They will have proper utilities and modern facilities, just like markets you see in other counties.

Director Nicholas Ogajo also reiterated that priority in employment and business space allocation would be given to local residents, aligning with the government’s policy of empowering communities through development projects.

The event was attended by Nessuit Ward MCA Hon. Samuel Tanui, MCA Sirikwa Emmanuel Langat, officials from the National Housing Department, and various stakeholders from both levels of government.
