Ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations themed Universal Health coverage – Afya nyumbani, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua officially opened the thematic week in Kericho County.

President William Ruto will officially inaugurate the UHC during the Mashujaa Day celebrations on Friday, October 20, capping off the four-day exhibition and conference.

The thematic week aids in the assessment of the health sector's accomplishments as well as the discussion of potential innovations and interventions that might support the sector and guarantee the government's plan for universal health coverage is successful.

During the tour of the county, the deputy president stopped by a Cheborge home to evaluate the success of the recently introduced Universal Health Promoters program. He also observed how the CHPs are communicating the data they collect to various hospital levels as part of the government's efforts to digitize various programs.

‘’Witnessing the potential of the Kericho County Smart Primary Health Care Network, which is expected to revolutionize healthcare service delivery through data digitization, is an amazing opportunity. I applaud Governor Mutai for putting this digital system in place, as does his entire team. It will completely rethink how we serve our people," he declared.

Additionally, the DP introduced the Smart Primary Care Network (PCN) for Universal Health Coverage, which guarantees service continuity for access to basic medical services from community-based clinics to level 4 facilities that provide specialist treatment.

He praised the Community Health Promoters who were hired for the job and stated that utilizing digital technology is one of the best ways to guarantee efficacy and efficiency in service delivery.

According to statistics, over 26% of the world's population of over 53 million individuals are covered by health insurance. According to the DP, government priorities include making healthcare more widely available and reasonably priced.

"Most households cannot afford the high costs of quality healthcare. Because many Kenyans lack access to healthcare insurance, serious health concerns are plunging families into extreme poverty.

Actually, out of the roughly 53 million people, only about 26 percent had health insurance. For most families, poverty is an unavoidable consequence of a significant medical condition. Human dignity is taken away by poverty. Thus, progress is slowed down," DP Rigathi Gachagua stated.

This is among the motivations behind the Ruto Administration's efforts to work with counties to promote preventative healthcare at the local level. This is in addition to the ongoing National Health Insurance Fund reforms, which are aimed at improving access to high-quality healthcare in accordance with the Constitution.

A certificate certifying Kericho County Referral Hospital's upgrade from Level 4 to Level 5 was also provided by the DP.

Additionally, he opened the hospital's oncology department, which will help provide services like cancer screening to Kenyans.
