- According to Oketch, any discussion about Raila must begin with an understanding of what politics entails.
Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has addressed the complexities surrounding Raila Odinga, asserting that many people do not truly understand him.
While speaking at Citizen TV on February 18, 2025, he has emphasized the need to grasp the foundational principles that shape Odinga's political philosophy, stating, "Most people do not understand Raila Odinga."
According to Oketch, any discussion about Raila must begin with an understanding of what politics entails: "Politics is a process by which we engage ourselves as a community, as a people, to determine where resources are located,” Senator Eddy said.
The senator elaborated on the role of government, noting, "The only thing that happens in government is policy." He pointed out that both the actions and inactions of the government significantly impact resource sharing, highlighting the importance of participation from both those in government and the general populace for a fair system.
This context, he noted, gave rise to the Gen Z movement, which emerged in response to government policies, particularly taxation. Senator Oketch says that while the youth may have resisted these taxes, their primary concern lay in the government's accountability regarding how these resources were utilized.

Oketch also highlighted Raila Odinga's commitment to equity, asserting, "Raila’s default is always to ensure that there is equity in terms of sharing."
He has expressed confidence in Odinga's intentions, stating, "When Raila comes back, there is no question of what he is going to do. It is a question of whether he will still have the energy to lead the ODM party."
Despite his recent electoral defeat in the African Union Commission Chairmanship race to Djibouti’s candidate Mahamoud Ali Youssouf on February 16, 2025, Oketch believes that Odinga will continue to advocate for the people of Kenya, asserting, "I believe Raila Odinga will not retire from fending for his people and taking care of the people of Kenya."
