In a circular released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development on December 4, 2024, the Cabinet Secretary Andrew Karanja has announced that the exportation of raw macadamia had been lifted for 30 days from the day of the notice.

“In exercise of the power conferred to me by Section 43 of Agriculture and Food Authority Act, 2013, I hereby authorize the export of raw (in-shell) macadamia nuts for a period of 30 days from the day of this notice,” the notice stated.

Additionally, through the notice, the CS urged all exporters who would like to export raw macadamia to apply by writing to the Agricultural and Food Authority- Nuts and Oil Crops Directorate and attaching a fulfilled stock verification form.

This comes after the Ministry banned the export of raw macadamia on November 3, 2023, for one year that ended on November 2, 2024. The Ministry conducted physical assessments on stock held by various licensed processors, exporters and manufacturers between November 3 and November 9, 2024. During the process, the Ministry found out that exporters had stock of raw macadamia and had orders that had not been serviced.
