The Media Council of Kenya (MCK), in collaboration with Brooke East Africa (BEA), invites accredited journalists and media practitioners to submit story proposals for the Domestic Work Animal Health and Welfare Reporting grants.

These stories will focus on the care of donkeys as work animals, policies that protect animals, and issues related to animal health and rights. Topics of interest for the grants include calls for action against the mistreatment of domestic work animals, efforts to combat exploitation, and initiatives that promote awareness and innovative approaches to donkey care.

The grant is open to journalists and media practitioners based in Bungoma, Kisumu, Bomet, Baringo, Nakuru, Narok, Kiambu, Nairobi, and Kajiado. Applicants are required to submit a 100-word story plan that includes proposed sources, the story angle, and what makes it exceptional, specifically focusing on donkeys as work animals. There are nine grants available, each worth Ksh 15,000, intended to cover travel, communication, and meals.

According to MCK, the awarding of grants will depend on the uniqueness and strength of the story proposal, the innovative approach to the topic, and the potential impact of the story once published or broadcast.

BEA will assist grant recipients by providing access to communities for information gathering and serving as the program's implementing partner.
