• The reports show that the company involved is owned by Gilbert Songok, based in Canada, who has managed to blind the residents that he has a significant influence in Canada and assured them of securing jobs for them.

The Principal Secretary in the State Department for Labor and Skills Development Shadrack Mwadime, on August 20, 2024, released a press statement alerting the public to fraudulent job opportunities in the country.

The release follows a second scam incident of over 300 Eldoret city residents lured into paying between 300,000-350000 to a company named Novice Global to secure job positions.

The reports show that the company involved is owned by Gilbert Songok, based in Canada, who has managed to blind the residents that he has a significant influence in Canada and assured them of securing jobs for them.

Among those who paid the cash is Joshua Langat, who narrates that the director of the company asked them if they had the money ready to enable them to commence the process of securing jobs abroad.

The company had also asked them to prepare to fly out with an agreement that the quoted amount was to cater for everything required.

The parents looking for a brighter future for their children sold their assets and personal properties to secure job opportunities and waited for an official communication on the progress.

Their longing hopes and anticipated savior from poverty took several months in silence. Anxious about the outcome, the residents stormed the company to inquire about the fate of the promise.

Although armed with payment receipts, the alleged company offered no assurance that the money would be refunded to them.

The rampant existence of such activities in Eldoret and other places in the country has prompted the concerned department to articulate clear procedures to follow when applying for jobs outside the country.

"The ministry wishes to notify the public that all job advertisements or any job offers or demand letter must have been approved by the Director General, National Employment Authority," said Shadrack Mwadime.

"At the same time, all foreign employment contracts must be attested by all designated labour offices at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection before air tickets are purchased to travel to the destination country. The attention process is done online through the National Employment Authority Website ((NEAIMS.GO.KE) including downloading and uploading the necessary documentation," he added.

Mwadime has also hinted that the government has operationalized a labour migration desk at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to reinforce compliance from all Kenyan workers before departure to curb such fraudulent activities.

To increase vigilance on such matters, the Kenyan population who want clarity of information on labour migration are requested to do so through the Toll-FREE No: 080022223.
