Ndaragwa is one of five constituencies in Nyandarua County. Surrounded by highlands, with rich soil and a favourable climate, it is a key food-producing area in the county. Farming and livestock support both local and national markets.

Political Leadership 

2022 General Election: Hon. George Gachagua (UDA) won the Ndaragwa seat with 30,183 votes, defeating incumbent Hon. Jeremiah Ngayu Kioni (Jubilee), who received 7,227 votes.

2017 General Election: Hon. Jeremiah Ngayu Kioni (Jubilee) won a second term with 30,382 votes, defeating Hon. Francis Waweru Nderitu (Independent), who received 10,316 votes.

2013 General Election: Hon. Francis Waweru Nderitu (TNA) entered parliament with 25,171 votes , defeating Ndegwa Harrison Mwaura (NARC), who received 10,046 votes.

Political Behaviour

Voters in Ndaragwa are  performance-oriented. They prioritise agriculture, rural roads, access to quality water, market access, and opportunities for youth in agri-business. Over the last decade, the constituency has shifted from TNA in 2013 to Jubilee in 2017 and UDA in 2022.

It tends to reflect Mount Kenya political patterns, but voters respond most strongly to leaders whose performance they can see on the ground. Incumbents can be removed if locals view them as out of touch with economic realities. National party performance and brand name can therefore shape the outcome.

Economics and Infrastructure 

Agriculture is the backbone of Ndaragwa’s economy, driven by milk, maize, and potatoes. To reduce exposure to market swings and unpredictable weather, the area is investing in cold chain logistics, stronger market networks, and crop diversification.

Development strategies for the constituency focus on several critical areas:

  1. Commercial Agri-Infrastructure: Completing projects such as the Ndaragwa Horticulture Market is intended to modernise fresh-produce value chains.
  2. Water Access Security: Government initiatives, including the Lower Ndaragwa Water Supply Project, are bringing clean water to previously underserved farms in the lower semi-arid zones.
  3. Transport and Connectivity: Upgrades to the Shops–Uruku link road and secondary arteries aim to ensure year-round transport of agricultural goods to major highways.
  4. Institutional Development: NG-CDF funds are being directed toward education infrastructure, including the construction of the Park View Primary School Administration Block.
