Mogotio Constituency is situated in the southern part of Baringo County within Kenya’s Rift Valley region. It was established before the 1997 General elections and serves as a trade hub and transit corridor in Baringo and the Rift Valley. It also connects the highlands and semi-arid areas of Baringo County. Livestock keeping, crop farming, and trading are known sources of livelihood in the area. The constituency is strategically positioned, connecting the highlands and the semi-arid zones of Baringo County.

Political Leadership

2022 Elections: Reuben Kiborek won the elections with 17,363 votes against his competitor, Dkt. Daniel Tuitoek, who ran on an independent ticket, and garnered 13,068 votes. 

2017  Elections: Daniel Tuitoek of the Jubilee Party won the seat, defeating the incumbent  MP Hellen Sambili with 14,750 votes, while the independent candidate Hellen Sambili garnered 7,445 votes and became the runner-up.

2013 ElectionsThe KANU candidate, Hellen Sambili, won the seat with 9,125 votes URP party candidate, Daniel Tuitoek, came second with 7,697 votes

Economic Activities and Development Priorities.

Education Infrastructure and Bursary Disbursement

NG-CDF has supported the construction of classrooms and administration blocks, and the allocation of bursaries across secondary and primary schools. Several schools in Emining and Mogotio wards have benefited from classroom expansion projects aimed at improving access to quality education in the constituency.

Agriculture and Livestock

Mogotio’s economy heavily relies on livestock farming, maize farming, and small-scale horticulture. Farmers have benefited from county and national government initiatives promoting drought-resistant crops and livestock vaccination programs. Water projects and borehole programs have been introduced to support irrigation and pastoral communities, especially in drier areas.

Roads and Infrastructure

Road improvement projects connecting Mogotio to Nakuru and Marigat have boosted transport and trade activities. Also, the roads connecting Lake Bogoria in Baringo South Constituency. Rural electrification and market expansion projects, including the Mogotio Modern Market, continue to improve business opportunities within trading centres such as Emining and Mogotio town.

Youth and Economic Empowerment 

Government empowerment programs targeting youth groups and women enterprises have expanded access to Biashara Funds such as Uwezo Fund and Youth Enterprise Development Fund and vocational training. The key vocational training is Emining Technical College. Affordable housing and public works programs have created temporary employment opportunities for local youth

Mogotio Constituency has aligned with dominant Rift Valley political movements, often favoring parties and candidates associated with regional political heavyweights. Unlike some highly volatile constituencies, Mogotio has demonstrated relatively stable voting patterns shaped by party loyalty, community interests, and development-oriented politics. Key issues affecting constituents, such as water, infrastructure, roads, and electricity connectivity, influence voters' voting patterns in the constituency.
