This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October 2025, Kenya has gone pink with purpose by raising standards, awareness, and hope. The streets, hospitals, local communities and organizations have mobilized to deal with one of the nation’s most pressing health challenges: late-stage breast cancer diagnosis.

One of the month’s achievement spotlighted was the regional breast cancer imaging course launched on October 6 at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).The event was in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The training brought together specialists from 13 African countries, marking a continental step in diagnostic capacity. Health officials emphasized that 7 in 10 Kenyan women still discover breast cancer at advanced stages due to limited access to screening and persistent stigma.

Corporate Kenya is also not left behind as a leading gaming company, SportPesa, has joined the nation by launching its campaign; "Go Pink," reaffirming its commitment to social impact through employee engagement and awareness campaigns. Their involvement reflects a rising realization that cancer care is a social issue as well.

Nationwide, this October, efforts are being made to increase public awareness by promoting regular self-examinations, clinical screens, and lifestyle adjustments.

The forthcoming Cancer Research Symposium, which will take place in Nairobi from October 21 to 24, will focus on innovation, policy, and collaboration in cancer care, with a strong focus on breast cancer.

Importantly, it is key to remember that men can also get breast cancer. Though rare, male breast cancer is often diagnosed late due to low awareness.

As we continue with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the public is encouraged to go for screening as early detection will help save lives. Kenya is determined to make a difference in the health sector for a better future.
