Summertides Ends in Panic as Night Train Gets Suspended
07 Jul, 2025 11:23 AM

The Coast was lit. Everyone was sun-kissed, vibing, and posting endless "outside" stories. Then came the buzzkill, an official public notice from Kenya Railways dropped like a poorly timed bass drop:
"Kenya Railways has suspended the 10pm Madaraka Express passenger train from Mombasa to Nairobi."
Suddenly, return plans vanished faster than ice cream under a Mombasa sun. Influencers panicked, groups scrambled for buses, and one person even suggested renting a camel. flew. TikTok documented the collective heartbreak. Others just blamed the government.
Kenya Railways was quick to assure everyone that safety comes first, and to be fair, nobody wants to speed across Tsavo on a train with issues.
But for the coastal revellers, it was a lesson in festival aftercare: always have a backup plan—or a power bank, an Uber budget, and your aunt's number in Mtwapa.
However, when the memes were getting out of hand and people had resigned to spending an extra night on the beach (not the worst thing, honestly), a second update dropped on the morning of July 7, 2025—and this one came with good news.
Kenya Railways has arranged transport for affected passengers. Please report to Mombasa Terminus by 8 AM. All July 6 tickets will be accepted."
Order was restored. Bags were dragged back from hotel rooms. Festival survivors, now slightly hungover but deeply grateful, made their way to the terminus.
The crisis was over, and the train was back on track literally.
Moral of the story? Always expect plot twists when you're having too much fun on vacation. But hey, at least this one had a happy ending—and maybe even an extra sunrise by the sea.
