• Every human has the capability of achieving something great. And those who do so do not mean they are perfect; they just prioritise action. Do not worry about the outcome of your action; worry about inaction.

When going to an event or about to meet someone, you may find yourself in a cloud of thoughts, questioning whether your outfit is right or whether you can meet and have a conversation with your guest. You constantly think of all the possible ways things can go wrong.

This then makes you critically analyse situations and try to be perfect. When it appears you are not, you are at war with yourself.

Overthinking leads to indecisiveness, which then makes us feel inadequate. We feel we are not up to the task. We question our abilities and overanalyse them. Overthinking makes us focus on our flaws, which leads to a wave of negativity in our minds after realising we are not that good.

This often leads to isolation coupled with increased low self-esteem. You spend sleepless nights wondering why you are so inadequate.

Dawn arrives, and you are still in that loop. It robs us of our lives. When we observe others living full of life, we start judging ourselves, wondering if we were not meant to be happy and joyous like them.

Worse, when you are battling it without anyone showing you that you can breakthrough this ceiling, you feel trapped and alone.

What follows is a wave of sadness. You can only smile while others laugh, while you know you are missing something deep down.

When going out, for instance, we question our outfit so critically that we end up wearing something we didn’t anticipate. And if the outfit has flaws and one of your friends identifies them and points them out to you, you feel overwhelmed.

What will these people say about me? Why am I not good at selecting outfits? I wish I stayed home. We overthink the opinions and views of others, trying to accommodate them in order to appear perfect because our esteem is extremely frail.

Action! When you ride a bicycle, you realise that the moment you stop pedalling is when you topple. Constant peddling keeps you in motion and hence enjoy the cycling experience.

The same applies to overthinking. When you are in a cloud of thoughts, you are stagnant and about to topple. These thoughts keep you in the same spot. It is time you realise that you need to cycle. You need to take action as soon as possible.

Don’t overanalyse the outcome, as this may lead to indecisiveness. When you take action, you are in motion; hence, overanalysing cannot keep up with you. In the end, you feel a sense of accomplishment because you have undertaken a certain course. This is the same as enjoying the cycling experience.

We also need to realise that we are not alone in this. Others are battling the same, and they are striving to get out of it or deeply enclosed in this web, either.

Every human has the capability of achieving something great. And those who do so do not mean they are perfect; they just prioritise action. Do not worry about the outcome of your action; worry about inaction.
